50% of Americans hate their corrective lenses.
98.5% of LASIK patients love not having them.
So what can LASIK provide you that your corrective lenses cannot?
Quality of vision and quality of life.
You can certainly operate fine with glasses and contacts – they serve their purpose well. However, these visual aids simply compensate for the underlying problems of poor vision which is caused by an irregularly shaped cornea. Modern medical science created a solution that is far better than compensating for poor vision with the use of plastic lenses. It was not possible to correct the actual source of common vision problems until the development of the excimer laser.
Regarding cost, LASIK ends up being less expensive than lenses when you consider that you must continually buy new glasses, refill contact prescriptions and buy cleaning solution. Of course you can be very limited in doing specific activities, such as outdoor activities, swimming and camping. LASIK corrects your vision at the source so that you can naturally see well and so you can be free of the restrictions that glasses and contacts impose.
LASIK vs Glasses
Did you know glasses were invented in the Middle Ages?
That means we have been spending the past 700 years breaking them, replacing them, smudging, fogging, and scratching them. Why are you continually putting up with the irritation and inconvenience of a 700 year old technology when everything else invented in that era has been updated and made life much more convenient?
By the time you reach your 40s you may need reading glasses due to the effects of aging but you’ll still be free of the need to solve astigmatism and nearsightedness. There is a special LASIK procedure that can also address the need for reading glasses for many patients. If this is an area of interest for you, be sure to ask one of our eye care professionals during your consultation.
LASIK vs Contacts
Losing, misplacing, forgetting, scratching, slipping, tearing, sore eyes, red eyes, itchy eyes, glued to your eyeballs, allergies, hay fever, pocket book shrinkage…
Isn’t it time to free yourself from all of these problems?
If those aren’t enough, we have also gathered the following list of common complaints about contacts and enjoyments of LASIK from our patients:

- The Alarm Clock Factor – It’s amazing how the little things can end up being so important. One thing we hear often at patients’ post-op appointments is: “I got up this morning and could read the alarm clock without looking for my glasses first!” How much better would that be as a way to start your day?
- The Risks of Long-Term Contact Use – Unfortunately, this is becoming a more frequent gripe. In the past six years the FDA has posted an increasing number of advisories concerning risks associated with contact lenses, and some researchers have reported the risk factor with contacts as 5 times greater than with LASIK. This doesn’t mean contacts are dangerous, it just means that almost everything in life has risks and that most experts agree that the risks with LASIK are no greater than the risks of wearing contact lenses. - Freedom to Play Water Sports – Now this one is all delight. Glasses are impossible to wear in most active sports. Contacts can be hazardous or restrictive, especially with water sports. Splash, swim, frolic, canoe, dive and ski with complete freedom – after LASIK.
- Appearance – Some people are too shy to list this under their enjoyments of LASIK. Contacts do help a lot with appearance – if you’re willing to put up with the inconvenience and risks. With LASIK you can feel as good as you look.
- General Safety – “Nobody move!” are usually the words we cry just before we go on a lost contact hunt. The real complaint here is that for those minutes while we scramble around we’re virtually blind. That’s not an issue so much sitting in a coffee shop – but behind the wheel of the car?
- Footloose – This applies often to those patients that truly enjoy traveling. LASIK means you only have to pack what you want to take along, not what you have to take – like spare lenses, cleaning solutions, irrigating solutions, sterilizing solutions, etc. You can add here the freedom to work or party until late, grab some sleep, and be up and at ‘em without worrying about the glued-to-the-eyeball factor.
- Seeing Naturally – This enjoyment sometimes takes a while to be appreciated although it’s really the major benefit of LASIK. One day you realize you don’t have any glass or plastic between you and the rest of the world and that your eyesight is functioning exactly as nature intended.
- Better Vision than with Contacts – Many of our patients report improved vision than when using contacts and glasses. Soft contact lenses, due to their design and composition, cannot provide the quality of vision achieved with Custom LASIK, and cannot fully correct astigmatism. Custom LASIK solves the unique corneal irregularities that cause myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism so it’s no surprise that LASIK outcomes often exceed the results of contacts.
