For patients with nearsightedness that do not wish to have laser vision correction or are not a good candidate, Implantable Collamer Lenses® (ICLs) are an option. The ICL is an implantable contact lens that works with your eye to correct your vision.
At Davis Eye Center, we use the Visian ICL™ for our patients. The Vision ICL is placed behind the iris, in front of the eye’s natural lens, where it provides excellent quality vision with no maintenance. This lens will not alter the structure of your eye or cornea, and it can be removed if needed.
The procedure for ICLs takes approximately 15 minutes. The Visian ICL is flexible, which allows for easy placement within the eye. The surgeon will make a very tiny incision on the side of the cornea, slip the ICL into the eye and into place. Stitches or sutures are typically not needed during this procedure as the incision is so small and healing is rapid.
