Dermal Fillers

All skin contains hyaluronic acid, otherwise known as HA, which has the important function of hydrating your skin. When you are younger, your skin contains more HA which provides a young, healthy look. As you age, you begin to lose HA and wrinkles and creases begin to form, like those around the mouth and nose.

Dermal fillers are body-friendly substances containing HA that can treat large or deep wrinkles, creases, folds, loss of youthful contours, hollows, or acne scars. Dermal fillers can also be effective for lip enhancement.

Dr. Landes uses Juvederm® Ultra XC because of the lasting effects it has for her patients. It contains a small amount of anesthetic (lidocaine) for added comfort. Unlike other dermal fillers, Juvederm can last up to a year with just one application. It is injected into areas of the face where moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds occur. It temporarily adds volume to the skin and subcutaneous tissues, thereby creating a smoother skin surface. Some results are immediate, however full results will be seen two weeks after treatment.

The recovery period is minimal, and any slight redness or swelling at the injection site usually disappears within a few days. Results typically last between nine and twelve months. These results, while long-lasting, are not permanent. Less material is usually needed for repeat injections in order to maintain the desired effect. Juvederm is an exciting and safe option for people seeking to decrease the appearance of deeper facial wrinkles and folds without having a surgical procedure.
