Cataract Surgery - The Procedure

Cataract surgery is a very common procedure and should only take 15-20 minutes per eye. During the procedure, the surgeon will make a very miniscule incision on the side of the eye (less than 1/8 of an inch). The lens is broken up, removed and a flexible synthetic lens is put into place.

Because the incision is so small, stitches aren’t necessary for recovery; the eye will heal on its own. After the surgery you will be asked to rest for 30 minutes prior to going home. Most patients experience clear vision within a few hours after surgery, though it may take longer for other patients.

A series of follow-up visits will be required after surgery to ensure your eyes return to clear vision.
